Financing Your Business with Investor Capital

October 9th, 2007

In order for some businesses to grow, they need an infusion of capital. The type of capital depends on the entrepreneurs situation and the business needs. For some entrepreneurs, bank financing is the way to go. For other entrepreneurs, raising outside equity is the only way to go. Either way, it can be a challenge for most entrepreneurs to raise capital. Equity financing is often needed for a company to accelerate its growth and to get to the next level.

Learn from a panel of well-known Chicago investors what it takes to raise investor equity.

Topics discussed include:

  • How to assess if your firm is a good candidate for equity financing
  • Criteria an investor evaluates when contemplating an investment
  • Various forms of equity and what they all mean
  • How to better position yourself to raise outside capital
  • Role of an investor with the company after making an investment

    Panelists:

  • Matt McCall, Managing Director, Portage Ventures
  • Steve Miller, Principal, Origin Ventures
  • Bob Okabe, Managing Director, RPX Group

Moderator will be David Weinstein, President, Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center
