Chicago e-Learning & Technology Showcase

Purpose of e-Learning Showcase:
This is a full day celebration of the best e-learning found in Chicago. The Showcase focuses on the topics of synchronous virtual presentation programs and supporting software, such as webinars, online seminars, virtual classroom, blended learning, and online business simulations. But you can also expect to find presenters demonstrating their work on these topics and more: Authoring tools, development companies, and knowledge management tools will all be discussed and explained.

Who Should Come: Mark your calendar for August 20 to pre-register at the astounding price of $ 25 ($ 50 nonmembers) to hear and see e-learning in all its shapes and forms. Technology Conference: Technology from the Outside In: Learning from the Natives

June 10th, 2008

The conference will highlight two technologies developed and deployed by the generation known as the Millennials. The first segment will focus on Enterprise 2.0 drivers, including business challenges, trends of social networking and best practices of attracting memberships. The first panel will include Anthony L. Abbattista, VP, Technology Solutions, Allstate Insurance Company; Warren Habib, SVP, Digital Platform Development, MTV Networks Digital; and Richard Qualls, Chief Architect-Midwest Area, Sun Microsystems, moderator. The second segment will be conducted in a mixed world with speakers addressing members and guests from a private island on Second Life offered courtesy of Sun Microsystems CEO Jonathan Schwartz. Panelists will discuss co-creation activities and the wealth of input regarding peoples values and motivations in virtual immersive environments, including the internal business collaboration, more enhanced brand experiences and potential from a B-to-B perspective. The second panel will include Scott Lehman, Head of Philips Design North America, Philips Corporation; Carl Nerup, VP, Strategic Business Development for AT&T Enterprise, AT&T; and Jeff Sidler, SVP, Lee Hecht Harrison, moderator.

Intro to Lisp Workshop

INTRO TO LISP WORKSHOP

WHO: Programmers interested in learning more about Lisp.

HOW MUCH: The low, low price of 3ish hours of attention span.

WHEN: Saturday, May 31st from 3pm-6pm.

WHERE: Institute of Design, 350 N. LaSalle St, 4th floor, Chicago. Map.

WHAT: A hands-on introduction the the Common Lisp programming language

Tentative Schedule (presentations will be 30-60 min)

* Setting up a Lisp Environment (John Quigley): A hands-on walkthrough of how to setup a Lisp environment, Emacs, and SLIME. There will be documentation beforehand about steps to take and which packages to get.
* Lisp Basics and Idioms (Peter Christensen): Lisp syntax, contructs, basic code, idioms and practices.
* Common Lisp condition system (need a volunteer)
* Macros (Craig Luddington): How Lisp lets you write code that writes code that writes code � and why you�d want to do that.
* Demos of cool things in Lisp (need volunteers): showing off both neat and practical things that Lisp can do.

We�re looking for volunteers to do the following:

* Present on the CL condition system
* Suggest and present on other aspects of CL not listed here that would be suitable for an introductory session
* Walk around and help troubleshoot during the first session about setting up your environment.
* Help with audio and video recording
* Provide audio recording equipment (mics, cords, some way to record the audio on a computer, etc)
* Contact other programming user groups to promote the event

Flourish 2008

The University of Illinois at Chicago Linux Users Group (UIC-LUG) and the University of Illinois at Chicago Association for Computing
Machinery (UIC-ACM) are hosting their second annual Flourish Conference promoting the adoption and use of Free, Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS). The UIC-LUG and UIC-ACM would like to invite you to attend this glorious event. The entire conference is free
