What does it take to become an industry standard? How does one break down barriers in order to globalize one’s business? How do you lead a team that will become the model for others to follow?
Craig S. Donohue, Chief Executive Officer of Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and his team did just that when they transformed CME into the first publicly traded financial exchange in the United States. In December 2002 when CME held its IPO, the stock price of the exchange registered at $35. Since then, the stock has increased thirteen-fold! Craig and his team have built the largest and most diverse financial exchange in the world. In August, CME became the first exchange to be named to the S&P 500; it is the first exchange to be named to the InformationWeek 500; and the first to be named to Computerworld Magazine’s ‘100 Best Places to Work in IT.’ As the Chicago Tribune headlined last year, “CME is the Model for NYSE to follow.”
